Available NOW!

It’s finally time! The long awaited Budget Bytes: Over 100 Easy, Delicious Recipes to Slash Your Grocery Bill in Half is now available for purchase!

Budget Bytes

A little more about the book…

As the title indicates, the book contains over 100 recipes in my classic budget friendly, easy, real-food style. Most of the recipes are brand new, but I’ve included a few web favorites for new readers to enjoy!

In effort to keep the price low and easily affordable, the recipes do not include step by step photographs (pictures are expensive, y’all!). But fear not, the instructions are easy and as always, I’m happy to answer your questions. If the recipe titles and descriptions aren’t enough to get your appetite going, there will be a 16 page color photo insert with pictures of 24 of the recipes in their final, delicious form.

The beginning chapters include basic information about how to shop, cook, and eat on a budget. I’ve included a kitchen primer with lists of basic kitchen and pantry items to help stock your kitchen and get it ready for major money saving action. And, because the freezer is my favorite secret weapon, I’ve included best freezer practices keep your frozen foods safe and delicious.

In the back of the book you’ll find appendixes with lists of both vegetarian and vegan recipes to help you quickly find the recipes that suit your lifestyle. If you’re having trouble combining recipes to create a well rounded meal, I’ve also created an appendix with menu ideas and simple recipe pairings.

I’ve done my best to create an easy to understand, go-to guide for beginners with enough interesting and exciting flavor combinations to keep seasoned cooks entertained. I hope you enjoy!

My 4 year old adamantly hates corn, so imagine my surprise when he told me he wanted corn for lunch. I was looking for your honey buttered roasted corn when I found this. Lo and behold, I had everything needed!
It’s delicious, and the 4 year old says I need to make it like this every time so it can be just the way he likes it. Thanks :)

    • JBeanie says:

Is the “honey buttered roasted corn” sonnetium references the same recipe called “Oven Roasted Corn with Honey Chili Butter”? If not, to which recipe is she referring?

      Thanks :)

Hi Beth! First of all, I love your website. I haven’t actually tried any yet but I have 3 planned for the following week! Just wondering, do you have any plans to put your books on Google Play Books?

    • Hmm, I don’t know anything about Google Play Books! I’ll have to look into it. :)

      • Priya says:

Thanks for looking into it, hope it’s a platform you think would be great for your book :) Also tried 2 of the recipes so far – awesome! Partner and I both loved the dishes.

  3. Dawne Davis says:

I am so buying this as a Christmas gift for my son who loves to cook and is going off to college next year. What a great way to get started “managing” your food expenses in real life! Ramen noodles beware!

  4. Beth says:

Just when I thought I didn’t need any more cookbooks I came across this one. Of course I bought it. Both recipes I tried off your website were amazing, so I figured the book was too! It’s a keeper!

  5. Dianne Farst says:

Just came upon your website. Will be purchasing a copy of your book! Awesome.
Do you know calorie count on morning glory baked oatmeal?

    • No, I’m sorry, I don’t have the calorie count. There are several websites that allow you to enter ingredient information and have an estimate calculated for you, though.

  6. Kimberley Mann says:

Great cookbook! Loving everything I have tried so far. I look forward to making everything in this book.

  7. Anika says:

Excellent website! I love the creativity of your meals.

  8. Anna says:

I totally forgot about the book and just thought about it today after I recommended your site to yet another friend. I just ordered my copy and Im so excited! I cant wait to get it and try new stuff!!

    You truly rock!! <3

  9. JSpangs says:

I’m so happy that I received your book as a Valentine’s present. I’m currently eating the Southwest chicken salad over a bed of romaine lettuce for lunch and it is AMAZING! I’ve never liked chicken salad in my life but this is so delicious. It was hard to resist eating it all last night when I made it even though I’d already eaten dinner (I made it specifically to bring for lunches this week)! I can’t wait to have the time to try more recipes.

Thank you for all your hard work on both the blog and the book and creating/sharing all these wonderful recipes! You’re an inspiration & I wish you continued success!

  10. Peter says:

    Hi,

Just received my copy from amazon.co.uk. I love your site and decided to support it by buying this book. Maybe it is the first copy in the Netherlands ;)

  11. Kelly says:

I just ordered mine! I’ve been a fan of this site’s since I tried the Funky Monkey Oatmeal, and I can not WAIT for this cookbook!!!!! :)

  12. Stephanie says:

Just ordered it from Amazon! I make your recipe for Chana Saag at least once a week. I’m always trying your recipes, and love their consistency. I’ve never bought a blogger’s book before, and I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate what you do. I’m glad that I’m able to support you finally for the wonderful resource you’ve been to me.

  13. Katherine says:

I just bought a hard copy for my husband and I’m so excited! Your site has inspired him to learn how to cook. Usually I’m the one who cooks everything. Many of my go-to recipes are a little bit intimidating for him. Your step by step instructions with pictures will really help him learn the basics. Also, I think you and I share similar tastes, so he can’t really pick something I’ll hate.

    So, thank you!

    Signed,

A stressed out mother of two full time worker/graduate student foodie on a budget with a husband who can’t boil spaghetti

    :-)

  14. Mari says:

I bought it on iBooks! I am so enjoying it. You balance explanations of why and method nicely. It offers the novice cook the ability to follow clear instructions, much like the website, and offers more daring cooks tips to tweak recipes to thier liking or ingredients while keeping in mind budget. Bravo!

  15. Tiffany M says:

I’m so excited, it’s what I asked my husband to get me for my birthday

  16. Waiting impatiently for 2/4. Love your blog so I know your book will be terrific.

I know how exciting it is to be waiting for your first book to be published.

  17. Heidi says:

You’re recipes are my FAVORITE. Love your blog…super excited for the cookbook!

  18. Sharon says:

I’m so excited! I just preordered your book. Can’t wait!!

  19. Wenda says:

Beth! Good news for your Dutch followers: your book can also be pre-ordered in the Netherlands at bol.com. I’m getting one, many of your meals are favorites here!

  20. Karen says:

    Congrats! How exciting!

  21. Just stumbled across this website, everything looks delicious, I will be getting a copy, thanx Beth!

  22. Oooh – putting this on my wish list! Congratulations!

  23. Rachel says:

    Congratulations!!

I’ve been viewing your website for a while now and am excited to see that you got a book deal! Will your book have a lot of vegetarian recipes?

    • Yes, at least half of the recipes are vegetarian. :D There will be a list in the back of the book of both vegetarian and vegan recipes, too. :)

  24. Congratulations! I’m so excited. I started reading this blog back in 2009 and have been hoping and hoping that a cookbook would come so I could gift copies to all my broke foodie friends! Your blog is the only one I consistently go to for recipes, and it’s helped me through many, many dinner parties, work lunch-bag stockings, and broke hungry nights over the years. You rock!

  25. Emily says:

    This is so exciting! Congratulations!

  26. Charlotte says:

Let us know when there’s an internationally available ebook….a Kindle version for example would be great. The ibooks version is only available in the US store and i can’t pay the crazy postage for a paperback!

  27. Crista says:

    Beth,
My sister in law, cousin and I do marathon cooking sessions together every few weeks to stock our respective freezers. Your recipies feature prominently in our plans and soon your book will grace our bookshleves too- a little early Christmas shopping! Thanks so much for your wonderful blog- we love your writing and your food. Hoping there’s a book tour with an Ottawa stop in your future! :-)

  28. Brandon says:

To go along with the theme, I will definitely pre-order your book but waiting until I need to buy something else for free shipping :-P

  29. Lesley says:

I pre-ordered your book and I can’t wait for it to come out! This website has been a really wonderful resource since I started trying to cut down my grocery budget. I love that you take pictures of each step (so helpful!). Thanks for all you do!

  30. Becca says:

I just pre-ordered two books. I’ve never made more recipes (that I like and make again) from a website/blog than yours. Thanks for all your hard work over the last several years. I’m really looking forward to receiving the new book!

  31. Yay! That is so exciting. I saw the description listed several meat heavy dishes. Will there still be a good vegetarian section? or tips on how to substitute?

  32. Betsy Gilberti says:

    Hi Beth!
I there was a contest for saying, “Oh, that recipe is from Budget Bytes”, I would win a prize! I over the top thrilled for you. This is wonderful. Even though I am reading/follower and lover of Budget Bytes, I will get this book, to pass on. I have an idea. I am buying it with the soul intention of putting it out, asking someone to try one recipe, (or two) and then pass it on. No one can accept it unless they agree to pass it on…spread the love! I only wish I knew about the recipe testing group, I would have rocked that.
P.S. …my husband is forever grateful for the good food, but he is in love with Sriracha sauce, all because of you.

  33. Good for you Beth! This is amazing news! So happy for you! This will be joining my bookshelf soon!

  34. Katie says:

This is officially the first book that I have ever ordered from any blogger, ever. Beth, I’m a cell and molecular biology grad student without a lot of flexible income. I never really learned to cook growing up, so my first year out of the house was full of growing pains and rotisserie chicken. I loved food blogs, but they were always full of rare and expensive ingredients that didn’t seem worth it to buy.

I’ve been slowly wending my way through your recipes, and they’re amazing: delicious, made out of whole ingredients, and easy to concoct. I’m a much better cook and I’m preparing to whip up some cornbread from scratch tomorrow–a sentence I never thought I’d utter.

Thank you very much for the time and effort you put in here; it is appreciated by us all!

  35. Oh I can’t wait! I’ll be getting a few of your books for my cooking friends :)

  36. Amazing! So happy for you, it’s much deserved!

  37. Diana says:

In case any Canadians are wondering, I found the book on the Canadian version of Amazon! :)

  38. Just pre-ordered mine! Yay! Congratulations Beth. Can’t wait to see it in person!

  39. Hey.
I’m in the UK and I’d love this, any way of getting it shipped internationally?

    :)

    • Yes, I believe it will be available internationally through Amazon and probably the other vendors as well. I think you’ll have to check with each outlet to find out for sure.

    • Oooh, I was just answering more comments and someone else said “The Book Depository in the UK has the book listed.” So check that out, too!

      • Barry says:

Yes, here in the UK it’s currently £8.39 on Book Depository or £11.05 on Amazon.co.uk.

  40. janmaus says:

Hooray!!! Cover is terrific, and will look even better in my kitchen!

  41. Sally says:

I’ll get an e-book for myself and hard copies for each of my daughters. Can’t wait for it to come out.

  42. Beth says:

Great news! What a great gift for others too. I cannot wait.

  43. Great to see that your book is coming out soon! I’ve been recommending the blog to friends for a while now.

The Book Depository in the UK has the book listed, which is a good freight free and okay exchange rate option for Australian fans of Budget Bytes.

  44. derek says:

Exciting news, Beth! Do you know if the price will go up when it’s released? And do you get any incentive for pre-orders? If so, I’ll order now!

    • The more items sold the better for me, regardless of the actual sale price or where it is purchased, so buy whenever/wherever is best for you. :) Even though there is a list price set by the publisher, the vendors can choose to sell it at whatever price works for them and they can change that at any given time.

  45. Mark says:

Ordered it from Amazon just now. Can’t wait.

  46. Just pre-ordered mine from Amazon. Thank you!! I have changed my ways of eating since discovering your blog and have lost 50 lbs in the last year. My family is also healthier then ever and enjoys so many of the meals.

  47. YAY! I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time! My husband and I have depended on your website since the beginning of our 5-year marriage to get us through breakfast, lunch, and dinner on our tight budget. You have taught us so much and we have now mastered the art of pizza making with your recipes. I am going to order 3 of these, 1 for us and 1 for each of my sisters who are now just learning to cook for themselves. Thank you!!!

  48. Wow, that is so exciting! I’ve been following your blog for about 6 months or so and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. My boyfriend and I both enjoy your recipes :)

  49. so excited for this! I tell anyone that will listen about your website….cant wait to ahve a digital copy of this cookbook!

  50. Christina says:

SO excited for this!!! Congratulations!! Definitely buying on Amazon so I can get it delivered the day it comes out :)

  51. You are officially the first food blogger I am preordering a cookbook from. Loooove your recipes and can’t wait to get the book! February is soonish, right?

  52. Meghen says:

Congrats Beth! you totally deserve it! pre-ording mine today!!! Best recipes/easiest to follow that I have EVER FOUND! Will share this book link with my friends!

  53. fuzzilla says:

Er, I guess belated Christmas present if it’s out in February. Valentine’s! ;o)

  54. fuzzilla says:

Awesome! I’m grabbing some for Christmas presents.

Your recipes are phenomenal and I love how they’re things I’d actually want to make regardless of budget. My budget is small, though, and I’ve found that if I’m very careful with my grocery bill I can actually make ends meet without dipping into savings or busting out the credit card, so the money saving tips are very appreciated and empowering. A lot of budget friendly recipe blogs seem to include recipes that are lazy and/or gross (using pre-packaged crutches like cake mix, cream of mushroom soup, etc.).

  55. I am going to have to pick up the ebook for sure!

  56. Emily says:

    Congrats!

  57. What great news, Beth. Congratulations!

I’d love to buy a couple of these from whatever site above will yield you the most money. :) Feel free to just email me if that’s not supposed to be readily available info. Or if we all buy on Amazon will that push you up in ratings or something? I want to show you as much support as I can! I love your blog and know this must have been SO much work.

Thanks for all of this, Beth! Can’t wait to see what else you have cookin’.

    • Thanks for offering, Caitlin! I really don’t know any of those details. Feel free to order from wherever you’d like – a book sold is a book sold no matter the vendor! :)

  58. SoRefined says:

Congratulations, Beth! I know it’s going to be great.

  59. I’ve been following your blog for a while and I’m so so happy for you to finally have this happen! You really deserve it :) Congrats!

  60. Janice Schwartz says:

I just pre-ordered 2 books!!! One for me and one for my Mommy!!! Yipppieeeeeee!! I wouldn’t care if it had lots of recipes from this site I would still buy it so I wouldn’t have to cook with my laptop on the counter.

  61. margaret g says:

Yahoo! Can’t wait to read! Congrats!

  62. Congrats! Can’t wait to get the book! I’m a much more confident cook because of your recipes. I make my own bread/pizza dough/naan bread (my fav) all the time and it feels awesome!

  63. Lacey says:

SO excited for this & excited for you Beth! This is quite the accomplishment!!

  64. Lindsey Palmer says:

This is fantastic news! Let’s make it a best seller, ya’ll!
