Apple Dump Cake

- 3 Granny Smith apples (peeled, and medium dice, (3 cups, 660g uncut) $2.39)
- 3 Honey Crisp apples (peeled, and medium dice, (3 cups, 625g uncut) $4.49)
- ½ cup granulated sugar (110g, $0.19)
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon ($0.10)
- ⅛ tsp ground nutmeg ($0.01)
- ⅛ tsp salt ($0.01)
- 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 oz. box, $1.12*)
- 1 cup butter (melted, (2 sticks) $1.21)
Instructions
- Gather and prepare all ingredients. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Peel and cut the apples into medium-sized cubes and place them in a 9x13 oven-safe dish.
- Pour the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt on top of the apples and toss to coat. Spread out evenly to fit the pan.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples, covering them completely.**
- Evenly pour the melted butter over the cake mix, covering as much as possible.
- Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Remove the apple dump cake from the oven and enjoy.

*You can also use a white cake box mix. I use the Great Value deluxe moist yellow box cake from Walmart, which is a richer, denser, and more moist cake. The white box cake will be more delicate and fluffier. You can even try a spiced cake box mix.
**I know your instinct is to mix everything together, but DON’T! It’s called “dump” cake for a reason. Just layer the ingredients and pop it in the oven.
